Rougemount's Answers to Popular Patient Questions

Registered Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals and therefore you do not need a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy. However, we do recommend that you check your extended health care plan, as some insurance  companies do require a doctor’s referral for you to be reimbursed for your physiotherapy expenses. It is your responsibility to know the requirements for your personal benefit plan.

Initial assessments with our registered Physiotherapists are booked as a one hour appointment.  All appointments are one on one with your Physiotherapist.  We do not use Assistants, Aides or Kinesiologists at our clinic.  At your first appointment, your Physiotherapist will conduct an interview and a physical assessment.  This is followed by education about your injury and a treatment.

Follow-up visits vary in length depending on your injury and the treatments that are required for your individual needs.  Your Therapist will discuss what to expect at your next appointment and how long you can expect to be in the clinic, generally 30 to 60 minutes depending on your condition.

The number of sessions will depend on your individual condition.  Your Physiotherapist will discuss this along with your individual treatment plan and goals at your initial assessment.  Generally, our clients attend physiotherapy 1-2 times per week.

We ask that clients wear clothing appropriate for their injury, generally, loose comfortable clothing is best.  We will need to be able to expose and move your area of injury free of restrictive clothing when possible.  Please bring any test results that pertain to your injury if you have them.  You can also request that your Doctor or Specialist fax any reports pertaining to your injury directly to us at 905-509-7182.

OHIP coverage for physiotherapy services (government-funded physiotherapy) is only available at OHIP licensed facilities for Ontario residents under the age of 18 or over 65.  Rougemount Physiotherapy is not an OHIP clinic.

Rougemount Physiotherapy requires 24 business hours notice for the cancellation of any appointments.

Clients will be charged $40.00 for a missed assessment appointment, and $30.00 for a missed subsequent treatment appointment if 24 hours notice is not given.

The cancellation fee simply allows your Physiotherapist to be compensated for the one on one time you have reserved with them. The clinic does not benefit in any way from this fee, the full fee is paid to your Therapist for the time they had booked with you.
